This week, we launched the second part of a series of episodes showing our employees’ life in Quebec City. Today, Gameplay Programmer Sarah Dugloud is giving a unique access to a day in her life. Enjoy!
As a programmer, my days are pretty much the same. I spend most of my time in front of my screen. But, subjects are different every day, so I don’t have the time to get bored (that’s what I like the most about my work). Because I like being active, my routine is filled with physical activities. When I’m at work, I usually don’t take a lot of breaks, because I prefer to leave work early and make sure I spend some good times doing activities.
JI’m getting up! Let’s be honest, waking up is the hardest part of the day! My pillow and my blankets are way too comfortable, it’s a heartbreak to leave these two in the morning! I go for a run in the Parc de la Rivière-Saint-Charles as soon as I’m up, to help me get motivated, but also to wake me up.
As soon as I get to the studio, I go straight to the UbiGym, for a 30 minutes core workout with the kinesiologist, Gab. It’s my third class of the week at the UbiGym and I have to say that after doing that workout and my morning run, it leaves me with a clear conscience to work almost all day on my computer.
I’m finally at my work space and I can start eating breakfast while reading emails. It’s usually on Wednesday that I do the most physical activities, so I like to bring my coffee in a Thermos. Today, I did a detour (it took me one more minute of walking than the usual) to Van Houtte Cafe to go grab something to eat
It’s scrum meeting time! Twice a week, we get reunited to go around the table and see what everyone is working on. It gives us the opportunity to anticipate potential issues.
I’m starving now! I’m going to go grab some food to one of the many restaurants we have here in Saint-Roch. I feel like eating a good vegan sandwich and a salad so I’m choosing Cooper Branch today! Bon appétit!
I must admit we are really spoiled here at the studio in terms of treats and snacks. During summer, we get to enjoy freezers full of popsicles (the dream)! Since summer is already over, the freezers are closed. But I’m totally fine with that because it means the popcorn machines are open again!
My workday is over and I’m going back home! It’s slowly getting colder here in Quebec City but it’s still sunny enough to enjoy the patio. I’m taking advantage of the nice weather to give some love to my one square meter garden, by watering it while drinking a nice cold beer.
After eating dinner, I leave the house on my bike to go climbing at Délire Escalade. There’s nothing like doing some climbing to empty the mind at night. But, I still can’t wait until it’s winter again so I can go snowboarding at night!
Yes, I know it’s still early for some of you. But I started the article by mentioning how much I loved my pillow and my blankets, right?
