12 devs in 12 months: Dave Simard

To launch the celebrations marking our 15th anniversary, we wanted to introduce studio employees in an original way. People that are not usually under the spotlight, but that deserve to be known for their impact on the games we create. From that idea, we created the 12 Devs in 12 Months initiative. Until the end of 2020, you will get to meet 12 talented and friendly developers.

This month, we’re introducing you to none other than Dave Simard, Software Team Lead at Ubisoft Québec. We also take the opportunity to wish a happy birthday to Dave who will celebrate his 6th years Ubiversary this year!

Enjoy!

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST MEMORY AT UBI?

The reveal of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at the E3 in 2019. That was for sure one of the highlights of this project because it was the first time we were showing our game to the world.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU INTO THE VIDEOGAME INDUSTRY?

I got here because I’ve always been passionate about software and programming, with a preference for entertainment and artistic multimedia. The video game industry has always given me the opportunity to combine my 2 passions.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT YOU’VE WORKED ON?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey without a single doubt.

15 YEARS, IT FLIES BY! WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN 2005?

In 2005 ! Back then, I was in my second year of high school. I was awkwardly trying to create offline websites with the help of FrontPage Microsoft.

WHAT GETS YOU OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING?

A dynamic and motivated team who’s working on a major project. That’s what makes me want to perform and progress.

UBISOFT QUÉBEC WOULDN’T BE UBISOFT QUÉBEC WITHOUT…

The unifying spirit of the studio and everyone’s determination to succeed. But also, the awesome festive moments that we get to share together.

NAME A COLLEAGUE THAT INSPIRES YOU. WHY?

Pierre-Luc Vachon, a passionate colleague, but also a friend with a contagious determination who takes to heart his colleague’s fulfillment.

WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?

It’s to elaborate a system or a functionality and to see it progress over the years, so they can be reused and improved on different projects or brands.

WE OFTEN TALK ABOUT THE VIBE AT UBISOFT QUÉBEC. DESCRIBE THIS VIBE IN 3 WORDS.

Always. Super. Impressive.

WHAT WAS YOUR SONG IN 2005?

It’s pretty hard to remember, but it would probably be Boulevard of Broken Dreams from Green Day.

WHAT WAS YOUR GAME 2005?

Forgotten Realms : Demon Stone. Hopefully I’ll bring back memories to other fans like me.

UBISOFT QUÉBEC IN 15 YEARS, WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?

To reveal the future could change the line of time.
