12 Devs in 12 Months: Cédrick Duquette
Even if our 15th anniversary is behind us, we still have a bunch of amazing employees that deserve to be known. That’s why we’re starting the second edition of 12 Devs in 12 Months. Until March 2021, you’ll get to meet 12 new talented and friendly members of our team.
This month, we’re introducing you to CÉDRICK DUQUETTE, Team Lead Quality Control, who has been with us for 4 years.
Enjoy!
Describe your job in a GIF.
What is your best memory Ubi?
My whole adventure on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I moved from Montréal to Quebec City to join Ubisoft Québec. I’m a fan of the franchise and to be able to work on it was a little kid’s dream. I also experienced the birth of my son during the project, and I met and developed relationships with incredible colleagues.
What led you to the video game industry?
I was in a completely different field, but I was looking for a job. A friend of mine referred me to join a studio as a tester in Montreal, I seized the opportunity and it’s probably the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. Thanks friend!
What was the best project you worked on?
Immortals Fenyx Rising. It was not necessarily the easiest project, but clearly the most interesting one. Starting a new IP, seeing the development of ideas come to fruition, taking part in a completely new adventure. (Besides the game is really AMAZING!)
What do you like most about working from home? What do you like least?
Clearly, telecommuting allows you to better combine work and family, it allows you to better adapt your schedule to your needs!
Nevertheless, the contact with people is something that can be a challenge. As a manager, not being able to sit down with someone face to face to discuss changes the dynamic.
If you had any advice for someone who would like to do the same job as you, what would it be?
Be passionate about a video game, have at heart the well-being of your teams, learn to organize yourself and have at heart the success of the project before your individual success.
Which colleague has marked you in the last year and why?
There are several, but I’ll avoid talking about who on my teams (not to make anyone jealous! :P) But I could name two on the production side that I could highlight;
➔ Andree-Anne Boisvert, producer on Immortals Fenyx Rising: She’s so solid! She has a perfect balance between the human and friendly manager, but also the one who knows how to make herself understood and give clear and precise directions. Really a must on a team.
➔ Valérie Methot, CP Informatique: A really nice person to work with, professional and friendly! She is super efficient and it’s really a charm to work with her!
What passionates you outside of work?
I’m a retrogaming fan, mainly of the Super Nintendo, so collecting is a passion. And my little family (Chloe, Theo, I love you ???? )
What did work from home allow you to discover about yourself?
Hard to answer… Probably more the idea that it is really easier and simpler than I would have expected, but also the importance that the face to face interaction has.
What are you looking forward to the most about going back to the studio?
The people, the table corner discussions, the group meetings, the face-to-face meetings. And the popcorn machine!
What question would you ask the next #12Devsin12Month participant?
Are you doing the job you wanted to do as a child?
