Ubisoft Québec unveils Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Quebec City, June 11, 2018 – Ubisoft unveiled today Assassin’s Creed® Odyssey, the next episode of its famous franchise, developed and led for the past three years by hundreds of creators at the Quebec City studio. The announcement concluded the Ubisoft impressive annual press conference in Los Angeles, ahead of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the world’s premier trade event for the video game industry.
It was a moment of great intensity for Ubisoft Québec’s developers and the team of about thirty that are in California to showcase the game to thousands of members of the industry, journalists and players from all over the globe.
“We were very excited to reveal the fruit of our hard work to millions of Assassin’s Creed fans, said Marc-Alexis Côté, Senior Producer of the game. For Quebec City’s 400 creators, as well as our hundreds of collaborators from associate studios*, the title of the game is extremely significant. For the past three years, we have lived a true odyssey, an incredible adventure, which led us to surpass ourselves on all fronts in order to offer a memorable gaming experience”.
Indeed, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an ambitious game, in which the Québec team pushes even farther the franchise transformation into a full role playing game experience, whilst revolutionizing storytelling and the way to tell stories in Assassin’s Creed. In what will be the largest and most systemic open world in the franchise history, players will be able to interact with History like never before, thanks to a brand new interactive dialogue system.
In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the action takes place in Ancient Greece, a world rich with myths and legend, in fifth century BC during the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens. Playing as Alexios or Kassandra, a mercenary of Spartan blood sentenced to death by their family, players will embark on an epic journey from a young outcast to a legendary hero and uncover the truth about their mysterious First Civilization lineage. The game will be released worldwide on October 5, 2018, on the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. In addition, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been enhanced with additional features for Xbox One X and PS4™Pro systems.
AN ENGINE FOR LOCAL CREATORS
Attracting a production as major as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in Quebec City is a sign of the immense talent and the cutting-edge expertise earned by the studio, over the years, on one of Ubisoft’s flagship brand. It’s a remarkable motor which allows local creators to express their creative vision, innovate and shape the future of interactive entertainment.
“The studio, and the region of Québec, I would say, are privileged to count on Ubisoft’s confidence to welcome such a large-scale production, said Patrick Klaus, Ubisoft Québec Managing Director. It’s the full ecosystem that wins at it.”
To achieve such a mandate, a wide range of specialists from all fields are necessary. For Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, over 40 different professions are implicated, from Level Artists to Game Designers, going on with Scriptwriters, Gameplay Programmers and Audio Designers, just to name a few. It’s a golden opportunity for young talents to earn their first stripes on a flagship brand of the industry: over 50 new hires, fresh out of school from the province, landed their first job in the industry on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. It’s also a strong argument to attract specialized labour from all over the world and have them come and live in Quebec City: one in four employees on that production comes from outside the province of Québec.
